Katy Carter (she/her) is a recent graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies with a focus on political-economic infrastructures in rural and urban areas in the United States. Her academic journey also took her to Spain, where she studied at Carlos III University of Madrid as part of UCSB's study abroad program.
Katy's commitment to effecting positive change extends beyond her academic achievements. During college she was an integral part of the Santa Barbara Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center, initially as a receptionist and later as a hazardous waste technician.
Katy's multifaceted passion lies at the intersection of environmental sustainability and community development. She is dedicated to addressing the climate change crisis while simultaneously enhancing local communities. Katy firmly believes that local governments and organizations wield the most direct influence on people's daily lives, and she is enthusiastic about contributing to this transformative process.
Currently, Katy works as a Research Assistant at Spark Learning for Organizations, where she specializes in Participatory Action Research Methodologies. Her mission is to empower those with lived experiences in the child welfare system to actively participate in research, evaluation, and performance measurement, aiming to bring about systemic change and foster healthier, more resilient communities that prioritize family well-being. Katy is a dedicated advocate for positive change, both on a local and systemic level, and is committed to making a positive impact on the future of child welfare and community well-being.
